In Vietnam hat der Kult um den ehemaligen US-Präsidenten Barack Obama (56) ungewöhnliche Ausmaße angenommen. Die Nudelküche „Bun Cha Huong Lien“ in Hanois Altstadt, wo Obama bei einem Staatsbesuch im Mai 2016 schnell etwas gegessen hatte, hat den Tisch von damals jetzt hinter Glas gestellt.

In der Vitrine sind auch die beiden blauen Plastikstühle zu besichtigen, auf denen Obama damals mit dem Fernsehkoch Anthony Bourdain (61) zusammensaß. Das Restaurant hat sich seit dem Besuch zu einer der wichtigsten Sehenswürdigkeiten in der Hauptstadt des kommunistischen Einparteienstaates entwickelt. Was Obama dazu meint, ist noch nicht bekannt. Bourdain schrieb auf seinem Instagram-Konto lapidar: „Nicht sicher, was ich davon halten soll.“
Der Präsident und der Starkoch hatten damals ein typisches vietnamesisches Gericht gegessen: Nudeln mit gegrilltem Schweinefleisch, dazu eine Brühe, Kräuter und Chili. Der Preis lag damals bei umgerechnet etwa 4,50 Euro. Dazu tranken die beiden Bier. Bereits seit längerer Zeit gibt es in dem Restaurant ein „Obama-Menü“.
